Austin Zoo is a nice, low-key place to take the kids. We have annual passes and usually take a picnic lunch to enjoy. The highlights are the petting zoo and the train but the kids enjoy the monkeys and other animals as well.
It's fairly small, so expectations should be kept at bay. But it's a great place to pop by and always fun and relaxing.
